Musical Evening Dedicated to World Peace









On 22ndOctober, 2016, Society for Social Regeneration & Equity (SSRE) in association with the Kolkata Chapter of the Euphrates Institute, USA, organised an evening of RabindraSangeet (music composed by Tagore) dedicated to World Peace in memory of Daniel Pearl (who besides being a journalist was also a gifted musician), as part of the series of events called Daniel Pearl World Music Days (held annually during his month of birth; he was born on 10th October). The evening had performances by a couple of vocalists from Presidency University, Kolkata and a dramatic presentation from a student theatre group called Stage 8 Theatre Productions.

The vocalists were Dr Niladri Roy, Assistant Professor, Department of Performing Arts and NilanjanChatterjee, Student of MA (History), both from Presidency University, Kolkata, where the Honorary Executive Director of the Youth Outreach Programme of SSRE, Dr Navras J Aafreedi teaches as Assistant Professor in its Department of History, who spoke for a few a minutes at the start of the programme along with Sohini Jana, the Leader of the Kolkata Chapter of the Euphrates Institute, USA. Also present on the occasion was Shuma Talukdar, General Secretary, SSRE.
